Vacation Results
A first for me, I’ve never been the photographer who brings along his gear with the intention of making “Work” while on vacation. Just the snaps for the family album, because those are the most important ones.
But this time, I drug along my night setup because I had the intentions of getting a couple of photographs for my series “some nights i can’t sleep” . I was on search mode on the way down to the condo where we stayed, and this liquor store popped up and instantly I knew I was coming back for it:
It was different driving around an area that I’m not completely familiar (I say not completely because I’ve been to this town several times since I was in college, I don’t know it like the back of my hand, but it’s not completely foreign to me either, if that makes sense).
I was out for a few hours and about to call it a night when I came across this house, and along side of it was this boat that I knew would make a good image (above), and it did…but the crowning jewel of the night, was the house:
You know those times where you come across a scene and you just feel it, that “This is going to be a good one” feeling…I felt it, before I even got out of the car. Just the way the light from a neighboring Whataburger hit the garage doors (and the other house in the background), and the shadows, and everything. I was excited counting down the exposure time (I think it was like 3 mins? I’m bad about keeping track of those things…). I thought about it all the way back home, I thought about it when I mixed up the chemistry, and I was more anxious than usual waiting for the blix time to be up so I could take a look at the negative. Totally worth it.
